Drexel University has been ranked No. 12 nationally out of 234 schools listed on U.S. News & World Report’s Best Colleges for Veterans Rankings, which were unveiled last week in honor of Veterans Day.

To qualify for the rankings, institutions must be certified for the GI Bill and participate in the federal Yellow Ribbon Program, both of which help veterans reduce the cost of education, and must belong to the Service members Opportunity Colleges Consortium.

Christopher Diaz, president of the student-led Drexel Veterans Association, called the U.S. News Ranking “just the beginning” for the University.

“Some of the programs we have implemented this year and the things we are working on now are really going to propel us and make Drexel the model of what it means to be a veteran-friendly university," said Diaz.

He cited the recently implemented Student-Veteran Orientation program as a prime example of how Drexel is responding to the unique needs of its veteran population.

Drexel University’s approach to Veteran Student Services is based on institutional shared governance and support to guide the recruitment, retention and engagement of student-veterans. Drexel’s student body currently includes about 600 veterans and 140 dependents of service members using veterans benefits.

In addition to the Yellow Ribbon Program benefits, Drexel University Online offers active military personnel, veterans, and their immediate families (including spouses, children and parents) 10–30% tuition reduction options on online programs. For more information, please click here.

The U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges for Veterans Rankings is one of several recognitions Drexel has received in the past several months for its outreach to military service members. Victory Media, G.I. Jobs and Military Advanced Education have each named Drexel a Military Friendly School for 2013-2014.
