National Cyber Security Awareness Month

October 18, 2013

October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month! It’s an opportunity to spread the word to create a safe, secure, and resilient cyber environment.

Why is cybersecurity awareness so important?

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation reports that over 90 percent of the world’s data has been created within the past two years, and, according to a recent Cisco report, that percentage will only increase as the number of connected devices is expected to exceed the world’s population on earth by 2016.

Cyberspace is involved in many aspects of our daily lives, including shopping from home online, using our smart phones for banking and by simply using our favorite social media platforms to stay in contact with friends all over the world.

This year marks the tenth anniversary of National Cyber Security Awareness Month sponsored by the Department of Homeland Security in cooperation with the National Cyber Security Alliance and the Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center.

Coinciding with this month, we are proud to offer our new Certificate in Cybersecurity, Law and Policy with the Drexel University College of Computing and Informatics! The new certificate particularly responds to the fundamental need for policy and technical professionals who are interested in learning the laws and policy surrounding cybersecurity.
